ATPO is pleased to welcome Iqbal (Ike) K. Ahmed, MD who will deliver the keynote presentation, “Challenging Norms - Combatting Pressure through Innovation & Intervention.” This dynamic session will explore the paradigm shift in glaucoma management, driven by the field of interventional glaucoma through minimally invasive surgery, and will highlight the important difference and connection between research and innovation through the lens of Dr. Ahmed, as a world renowned glaucoma thought leader.

About Ike Ahmed, M.D.
Dr. Ahmed has been a leader in novel treatments for glaucoma, cataract, and lens implant surgery. His pioneering work in innovative glaucoma surgery includes coining the term Microinvasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS). He is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto, Professor at the University of Utah, a Research Director at Kensington Eye Institute, and Director of the Glaucoma and Advanced Anterior Segment Surgery (GAASS) fellowship, which trains surgeons from around the world. Additionally, is the head of the Ophthalmology Division at Trillium Health Partners, Mississauga, Ontario.
Dr. Ahmed is recognized as one of the most experienced complex eye surgeons in the world and has performed surgery on 4 continents, published over 200 peer-reviewed papers, authored several books, and has given over 1000 scientific presentations including 40 international visiting professor’s lectures. His award list is long, and includes the Binkhorst Medal Award at ASCRS, the Eye Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario Innovator of the Year Award, and the inaugural Ophthalmology Innovation Summit Clinical Innovator Award. Dr. Ahmed was named in Canada's Top 40 under 40 in 2010, and more recently recognized as the 3rd most influential ophthalmologist in the world by the industry leading magazine “The Ophthalmologist.”
